Ways of Making is a unique collaboration between Sir Peter Blake and Worton Hall Studios to recreate the same image in every known medium; from etching and sculpture to lenticular and 3D printing.

Sir Peter Blake's original image is inspired by a line from Dylan Thomas' Under Milk Wood: "From a finger bowl, a primrose grew." Blake's interpretation in a series of photos of a primrose in a bowl, forms the original that will be depicted across all known mediums. With over 50 processes being used, the series will explore over 500 years of edition making; from a traditional lithograph or silkscreen through to a robotically produced digital print.

Working with University of West England, Ways of Making is an extreme exploration of medium. The diversity and range of processes will result in a comprehensive survey of edition making and will not only celebrate traditional skills but also embrace recent developments in technique and materials. It is an ambitious collaboration that will offer viewers a full survey of the choice of process artist's have to convey their creative vision.

The multi-faceted project has been conceived by Sir Peter and Worton Hall Studios and made possible through the partnership with UWE's Centre for Fine Print Research. The idea was sparked by a visit to an art school where Sir Peter witnessed the students all working on computers rather than in traditional tactile methods. "Nobody was drawing or painting. My interest is in covering all the different way of working in an age where some of them are dying out.".
